Hello guys! I've gone on a vacation recently to JB and Singapore. I guess some of you should know from my instagram posts. During my stay at JB, I got the opportunity to try out the buffet dinner at the newly opened hotel called Renaissance Hotel. It's really really nice compared to all other hotels in JB. I've always got this thought that the hotels in JB are kinda "dirty", in a superstitious way lah cos they're old and got this weird smell when you enter the hotel lolol... I think this hotel is around a year old and they maintained this hotel well.. really worth the visit.

So, there's this cafe called Cafe BLD if i'm not mistaken which serves buffet dinner. I'm a big eater, and I'm always with "generous" appetite lol. I can eat up to 6-7 meals per day #nojoke. First of all, I'd really like to compliment on the service by the waiters and waitresses here. DAMN FRIENDLY omg felt like home. And again, no weird stinky smell of the furniture.

So of cos, the first section I went to was the dessert area. I'm kinda disappointed to be honest cos they're so..... ordinary. lol. Nothing special lah but I sapu all the ice creamsssssssss cos the cakes were not appealing. Okay I'll let the pictures do the talking..

#toiletselfie

Actually I liked the place more than the food. Seriously the environment is so nice that you can just fall asleep while walking. lol. The bar next to the cafe was really nice though. can play snooker some more. hahaha. K lah that's all for now. Damn hungry omg gonna grab supper now. SEE YOU GUYS & TAKE CARE. x
PS: GUYS Gimme some ideas on what to blog about. I'm so out of topic that I might consider blogging about food ONLY in the future.

Toll hike affects Johor hotel business. Occupancy dropped 18% in ...

Oriental Daily News, October 29, 2014

JOHOR BARU – The rise of toll charges in Malaysia and Singapore has impacted the local hotel industry. Malaysian Association of Hotels Johor Chapter chairman Shyam Nath said Johor recorded a drop of between 15% and 18% in business from August to October.

Shyam Nair said the toll hike indeed affected the local hotel industry. December had always been the peak season for hotels in Johor but this year the hotel bookings were less and slower compared to last year.

He believed the hikes in toll rate is a temporary impact and the situation will be better after 90 days with occupancy gradually return to normal.

"The Singaporeans will not just stay in Singapore, they will still come to Malaysia, this is just a temporary situation."

Shyam Nair spoke to the media at a press conference after attending a charity event hosted by his Association. Also present at the event were the Association's committee member Mark Kesang (translated name), Mahadi (translated name), Benny Toh (translated name), treasurer Mah Wee Kong (translated name) and secretary Loong Kee Pung (translated name).

Last minute booking

Shyam Nair said although the bookings for December is still slow, but Johor Baru is facing a special situation, many travelers chose to make last minute booking.

"Many travelers will book their rooms 72 hours before the trip. The impact on occupancy rate will only be clear after December."

He mentioned that apart from the lower turnout of Singaporean customers, Chinese customers are also showing a significant decrease while the number of Hong Kong, Taiwan and Vietnam guests is on the rise.

He said the Johor Tourism, Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee headed by Datuk Tee Siew Keong have been established to promote the development of Johor tourism. The committee will strengthen the promotion of local tourism development, expand the Indian market and attract more Indian travelers to the region.

Shyam Nair also revealed that the Malaysian Association of Hotels currently has 13 chapters in the country and 780 members who owns three to five star hotels.

The Johor Chapter currently has 74 members, providing 12,500 hotel rooms, which is the third after Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. In the year 2018, the Johor Chapter member and hotel rooms are expected to increase to 91 and 18,700 respectively.

With the Grand Opening of Renaissance Johor Bahru Hotel by YAM Tunku Idris Iskandar on 28 May 2013, Johor Bahru now has more exciting dining choices.

Cafe BLD is the cafe at the newly opened Renaissance Johor Bahru Hotel. I am fortunate to visit this exciting new dining option in Johor Bahru twice recently, once at Renaissance JB's Grand Opening and again today during lunch at the invitation of Ervina. Two days, and yet not enough stomach space to try everything. All I could do was to eat to my heart's content, and the rest, I can only take photos and feast with my eyes only.

Inside Cafe BLD, everything is spanking new, squeaky clean, yet the decor is warm and has rich welcoming tones. Seating is comfortable and spacious at Cafe BLD.

The food is prepared on order in a central island, open concept kitchen - the first and only such kitchen in Johor Bahru at the moment. We can enjoy watching the chefs prepare our food :)

I went round and round the four sides and corners of this kitchen, hunting for the best food and photo opportunities. I seemed to discover new, interesting things with every round.

This is the friendly Executive Chef Foong making cotton candy for us :) Chef Foong who hails from Ipoh has a wealth of experience in international cuisine having worked in restaurants and hotels in London, Osaka, Shanghai, Perth, Jakarta and Singapore.

In case you wonder, and some of you might have already guessed it, Cafe BLD stands for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Follow me and let me take you around Cafe BLD.

There are lots of Western and local appetisers - this is the succulent smoked duck, my personal favourite :)

The seafood station during the Grand Opening - I tried only the oysters and they were plump and fresh. I could literally taste the sea - went two rounds on this one :P

Nasi-Goreng-Kampung-Johor-Bahru

Chef Foong is very proud of his signature Nasi Goreng Kampung. The prawns and scallops were fresh and well executed. The fried rice was savoury. That sunny side up quail egg was a interesting touch and the fried keropok were crispy and tasty. The nasi goreng kampung is served with a couple of sticks of satay. Available from the a la carte menu.

Satay-Johor-Bahru

I didn't take the satay - saving it for another day but from the looks, charred bits at the edges and the meat grilled to golden brown, they must be delicious.

The chef was frying thick chunks of fish with a spicy looking sauce.

Roast-Duck-Johor-Bahru

Roast duck lovers - look out for this roast duck, it is one of the best that I've tried. This roast duck is one of the signature dishes at Renaissance's own Cantonese restaurant, Wan Li.

The roti canai station - everything is freshly made.

I can't help myself catching another flambe at the pasta station - this spectacular one by Sous Chef Thana who was visiting from Marriott Singapore, helping out at the Grand Opening.

The Briyani station during the Grand Opening. The lamb was gamey, tender, succulent and infused with spice fragrance. I had two helpings :P

Hotel in Johor Blog: Citrus Hotel Johor Bahru | Sunset Mood - Hotel ...

Posted: 10 Oct 2014 11:28 PM PDT

Our trip to Johor Bahru has one objective: Legoland Malaysia. Thus, when looking for hotels, we look for one that is easily reachable from Legoland Malaysia. Our choice comes to Citrus Hotel Johor Bahru, for the following reason:

 1. Citrus Hotel is located within 5 minutes walking distance to CIQ bus terminal. From the bus terminal, there are hourly shuttle to Legoland Malaysia
 2. Citrus Hotel also located within walking distance from Medan Meldrum Walk. For information, Medan Meldrum Walk opens from evening to late night, serving various food for dinner.
 3. As a benefit of located near CIQ bus terminal, Air Asia provide free shuttle from Johor Bahru Airport to CIQ bus terminal. From there, just walk to Citrus Hotel.
 4. There are also a shopping mall nearby should you need to grab few things.

Now, lets get into the full review, or head on to Citrus Hotel Johor Bahru at Agoda for booking

Citrus Hotel Room

The standard bedroom of Citrus Hotel, while not the smallest we ever stayed, still feel a bit small for 2 adults and 1 toddler. It has queen size bedroom, an ensuite bathroom, and a sofa near the door. It is probably the sofa that make the room feel smaller.

Citrus Hotel - Bedroom

And another complaint that I have with Citrus Hotel Standard room is lack of window. There are only small window in our room, facing uninteresting building. Obviously, this small window limit the amount of lights coming to our room. A minor inconvenience, as we spent most of our time outside the hotel.

Citrus Hotel Breakfast

Breakfast is provided at 2nd level of the hotel. it is served in rather large room enough for around 60 people. Food served is rather standard. We choose to have small breakfast here for convenience of traveling with 2 years old boy.

if you would rather to have another breakfast, there are large selection of food nearby, or in the shopping mall across the street.

Around Citrus Hotel

What probably the best feature of Citrus Hotel is its strategic location. Citrus hotel is located within walking distance from CIQ border with Singapore, and the CIQ bus terminal. From this terminal, you can basically go anywhere within Johor Bahru within a single ride, or cross the border to Singapore.

If you plan to go to Legoland, The Legoland Shuttle Bus is available at CIQ terminal. The bus depart every 90 minutes during weekdays, and 60 minutes during weekend. Timetable is posted at the bus terminal.

At night, the Medan Selera Meldrum Walk is lined with food sellers. Our favorite is the grilled fish, lumpia, and char kwee tiau. And after a long hot day at Legoland, the fresh cold sugar cane water serve as a well refreshing drink.

Hotel in Johor Blog: Leisure and Me: Review :Amansari Hotel City ...

Posted: 17 Oct 2014 11:03 PM PDT

Located in the heart of Johor Bahru City and with walking distance to most of shopping malls and attractions, Amansari City Hotel is an ideal place if you want spend a night after a tiresome day.

We spent a night in Johor Bahru,Malaysia during last July. It was a quick decision to visit Johor Bahru. As most of people live in Singapore, we visited for the purpose of shopping and food. It was a long weekend. Same time, it was the first time we visited Malaysia with our son who was 9 months old at that time. So, we decided not to travel any other place instead we wanted to stay close to Singapore. Finally,Johor Bahru was our destination!

After checking few hotels near Singapore and with disappointment because all rooms were fully booked, we found this Amansari Hotel through Agoda.com. It was a pleasant and decent hotel very near to Johor Bahru City Centre.

We booked a Deluxe King room and room rate included breakfast for the next day.

Deluxe King room-Amansari Hotel City Centre

The room we stayed was bit small but it was not a problem for us. It was pleasant and clean. Hotel interior is also attractive, but I couldn't capture much photos.

Room was provided with TV ,free WiFi and also with complementary tea coffee making facilities.

Bathroom was clean & looked new. This is one of our big concern when we book hotels through online.Because Until we reach the place,we have to depend on photos and other reviews shared by travelers.

Seating Area and Free wiFi in the lobby

Reasons why we like this hotel,
-Very near to Customs Immigration Complex and thus easy travel to Singapore
-Walking distance to most shopping malls including City Square
-Easy to hire a taxi and it's a few minutes' drive to KSL shopping mall
-Helpful and friendly staff.

Room was provided with Breakfast. However there was no much selections instead it was a standard breakfast with few food items.Check this post about our breakfast at Amansari Hotel City Centre

Overall we satisfied with our stay and had a good shopping experience in KSL mall.
