Hotel CIQHotel CIQ Johor Bahru, a budget hotel established in 2010, has selected Singapore-based travel tech startup Journeyful Pte Ltd for their booking engine technology.

"Journeyful's booking engine is elegantly designed and integrates seamlessly onto our existing website," says Ms Thacha K., Sales Manager of Hotel CIQ. "This is the perfect solution for us as we needed a simple-to-use tool that allows our guests to make room bookings and purchase add-on services with us securely, around the clock, via our website."

The affordable, turnkey solution was developed by Journeyful to address the needs of small and budget hotels. The booking engine is designed to fulfill a hotel website's key objective – to convert website visitors into bookings. The booking engine was designed to be both customer-friendly and very simple for hotel staff to use. It can be deployed onto a hotel's website, and the hotel staff can be trained to use it – both in under an hour.

"We are focused on helping hotels increase profitability by giving them exactly the tools need. The Journeyful booking engine allows hotels to secure immediate and guaranteed bookings for their unsold rooms," says Ivan Chong Han, who heads booking engine sales for Journeyful. "We absorb the integration costs and customers pay the hotel directly upon arrival. It's a win-win situation for the hotels."

Hotels add booking engines to their website to provide instant confirmation to customers who wish to book a room. The cost of a booking engine is significantly lower than the steep commissions charged by third party channels, such as Online Travel Agencies. Journeyful booking engines are designed to dramatically improve a hotel's profitability by enabling more guests to book direct.

Developments are underway to improve the booking engine's features, which will be released in later versions of the technology.

June 2014 - We embarked on another food trail in Johor Bahru during the June holiday vacation. This time, we decided to explore the areas outside of KSL and venture into Permas Jaya.
Our family spent 2 nights at 8 Days Boutique Hotel (Premas Jaya) which is about 15 minutes drive after crossing the checkpoint. 

8 Days Boutique Hotel offers affordable and comfortable stay for guests. Currently, they have 3 branches conveniently located within Johor Bahru, namely - Premas Jaya, Mount Austin and Impian Emas. It's not too hard to spot the hotel especially in the night. Just keep a look out for the iconic number 8 brightly lighted on the building's exterior. 

What's around 8 Days?
AEON Premas Jaya is just beside 8 Days Boutique Hotel to satisfy our shopping and marketing needs, especially in the nights when we do not want to drive out. Senibong Village (Malay Seafood Village) is 5 minutes drive away from the hotel and there are more dining options along the rows of shop lots that we can walk to. (More details will be covered in our Food Trail)

What's within 8 Days?
Reception area and conference room which can host up to 70 guests. Bistro Cafe, where meals, snacks and drinks are served daily. There are seating available indoor and outdoor.
There are ample parking lots right in front of the hotel. During the night, there will be a security guard to keep a watch of the cars. Premas Jaya police station is also located along the same shop row as 8 Days Hotel. That gave us an extra sense of security to leave our car at the parking lot overnight.

8 Days in a decent boutique hotel which provides complimentary Wifi. Electronic key security card system is adopted to access the lift and rooms. Check out their room rates online. Alternatively, it is also available at the reception counter. 

I spoke to the friendly staff at the reception and understand that the branch at Premas Jaya has opened for 3 years. The difference between Deluxe and Superior room is the availability of fridge and window view for the prior option. Do check with the hotel prior to your booking.

I was pretty impressed with the various room types available within 8 Days. Particularly the ones with steam bath or jacuzzi attached in the bathroom. There is a total of 48 rooms of different sizes over the 3 storey hotel. 

Some rooms are smaller with limited walking space but each room is neat and clean. Towels, toothbrush and toothpaste are provided in the bathrooms. 

Premier 4 in 1 comes with 2 Queen beds and it is the perfect room for our family particularly since we have 2 older children. Denver & Gladys love the beds because it is on the platform (very Japanese style). For the first time, I do not have to worry about them jumping on the beds. ^_^


Although the walking space is limited, it was nicely compensated with the spacious platform area. We played, snacked and rest on the platform. Even sleeping on the raised floor was so comfortable, thanks to the coolness from the air-condition room.

Toilet is spacious and clean. Safe and slippers were provided. 


Current promotional rate for Premier Tatami room is priced at RM155 (approximtely SGD 62) which is pretty affordable. If guests wish to travel down to Legoland or Puteri Habour Family Theme Park, they can check with the front desk to check on the transportation services available. I also learned that there is night market (Pasar malam) just outside the hotel on Sundays evening. We would love to be back to explore in the future!

Last two weekends ago, I had a great time having our Worship Ministry church camp at Johor Bahru, Malaysia. We stayed at KSL Hotel and Resort Johor Bahru Malaysia for 3 days. The hotel boasts of having a thousand air conditioned rooms, dinosaur themed waterpark (these dinosaurs move and splat water at the guests), shopping center, restaurants, spas, and convention areas.

GETTING THERE

From Singapore we took a bus to the resort. The ride took us hours because our group is composed of 250++ participants. If going on your own, I guess it would take an hour or less depending on the queue at Singapore and Malaysian immigration.

HOTEL ROOM

When we arrived at the resort the lobby was so packed. I was a bit tired, exhausted and nursing a headache because of the hot weather conditions. So when we (my roommate) collected our room keys we immediately rush to our room to rest until the first program would start.

I just love the view from our hotel room. What a lovely sunset, isn't it?

From the lobby you could catch a glimpse of the dinosaur themed waterpark.

FOOD

The food served during our stay was buffet style. We ate at the same venue for the next 3 days with live entertainment and music from our church people. I didn't ate much at the camp because I don't really like the food that is served. We'll except for the pasta served for lunch on the second day of the camp. This is just base on my personal taste and opinion.

On the second night of our camp me and my filipino friends went for supper outside the hotel at around 1:00 am. Hahah!! It became super late because of our habit of waiting. If someone is not around we won't go until everyone is there and everyone is ready. So we went for ice cream, barbecue and pratas!! I must admit I love the food outside the hotel. ;P 

SHOPPING

Throughout the camp we we're given a lot of free time. So me and my friends went shopping (for my case, I only went window shopping because I wasn't able to change my SGD to Ringgit). :(

The shopping mall has 4 levels of shopping areas (if I'm not mistaken) complete with a cinema. There are a lot of activities and entertainment at the area so you won't get easily bored.

CONVENTION AREAS

The hotel also boasts of spacious convention areas at the 7th floor which I think is perfect for large gatherings. No wonder I saw a lot of group gatherings and events at the area.

WHAT I THOUGHT

I really had a great time at our camp. I've been looking forward to the event itself and I was so elated to have joined. I find that KSL Hotel and Resort at Johor Bahru Malaysia is the perfect venue for large gatherings. If you want to relax those muscles then you can go for massage at the spa; if you get bored, then perhaps you can go shopping or watch a movie; if you want to have fellowship with friends then you can find a handful of areas to chill; if you're hungry then there are loads of restaurants and food stalls at the mall or you can go outside if you want.

Johor Bahru Malaysia

If you wanted to go for a holiday, this hotel is not for it. This is a busy hotel with lots of people everywhere. You won't be able to relax if you're eyeing to rest on your holiday. I also find that our room is a bit small. It's just good enough for no more than 2 people else it'll be too cramped. They don't have bathrobes so be sure to bring cover ups. The whole body mirror at our room is a bit old as well. I was surprised that this hotel is a 4 star hotel though.

Overall, I would say that this venue is the perfect place to hold large gatherings.
