Wan Li Chinese Restaurant @ Renaissance Johor Barhu Hotel Posted: 30 Aug 2015 05:00 PM PDT The Place Nestled in the Renaissance Hotel Johor Bahru, Wan Li Chinese Restaurant prides itself as a Cantonese fine-dining restaurant. The posh setting caters well to the business meals, family dim sum lunches, and birthdays; you get the idea. We had Dim Sum to kick-start the meal, with the Superior Har Kao with Water Chestnut (RM 10.26 nett) and Superior Siew Mai (RM 10.26 nett). Probably due to my recent trip to Hong Kong, these renditions were definitely not exceptional by dim sum standards, especially with its overly thick skins giving that doughy taste on the palate. That said, it still did satisfy my craving well enough, especially after dipping it with a generous slab of sweet chilli sauce. With some of the freshest prawns, the Deep-fried Beancurd Skin Rolls with Prawn (RM 20.50 nett) easily made this one of the most palatable dim sum items here! As a restaurant which does not serve pork (though it is also not halal-certified), and despite us more used to having the pork version, the Baked BBQ Chicken Puff (RM 10.26 nett) was a pleasant surprise. Will I Return Again? While it ain't the best Chinese food I had, it is definitely going to give you more bang for your bucks! With the SGD/MYR exchange rate at a historical low now, there's probably no better time to head up north to enjoy some fine-dining at wallet friendly prices!
